Fatehpur Sikri was the capital of the Mughal Empire between 1571 and 1585. This splendid little city was built by emperor Akbar. He named it 'Fateh' (meaning victory) after his conquest over Gujarat rulers.

Akbar built the city of Fatehpur Sikri to express gratitude to Salim Chisti, one of the most renowned Muslim saints, who had blessed the king with three sons.
